Those with applicable information regarding the historical concept of an airport in Ekiti must also shed light on the concept of the laudable commencement by governor Fayemi of the now abandoned Ado-Iyin-Itawure road for the “Oyebanji Ado city bridge” with yet no identifiable benefit to motorists or even the transport sector in Ekiti state.
Only about fifty vehicles use (on daily basis) the one previously built by governor Fayose, we anxiously wait on whatever justifiable report, including an environmental impact assessment on the new bridge.
Governor Oyebanji cannot be singled out as being the only governor in Nigeria guilty of building physical bridges where there is no need to, hence he shouldn’t be spared the same criticism other governors get for this individualistic tendencies.
Recall Candidate Oyebanji rode to office on a campaign slogan fashioned on continuity. Many remain gobsmacked that the “system’s” man has chosen to ignore what will showcase Ekiti glory in the commity of Yoruba states for personal whims and Caprice.
The concept of the now abandoned Ado-Iyin-Itawure was initiated almost at the same time the airport was. Recall former governor Fayemi was initially opposed to the concept of an airport, kudos to him for the commencement of a real tiwa n tiwa project, the now abandoned Ado-Iyin-Itawure Rd which would have matched the Lagos Ibadan expressway in terms of opening up not just Ekiti, but the entire southwest region.
Wale Ojo-Lanre, the Director General Ekiti State tourism board is a gentleman whose thoughts I cherish, but I implore him to broaden his outspokenness based on research and the common good of our generality as a people.
If he is brave enough to commend, he should be braver in chastising the reasons why tap water isn’t flowing in Ekiti state, why despite a transition law (as amended), projects have been left abandoned for new meaningless ones.
Why the economics of the airport needs no celebration. It is financed on a loan, yet the airport can’t singlehandedly pay back what was borrowed?
Pls what ready economic crop or cargo does Ekiti have for exporting that can actually pay a commensurate freight bill?
The cost of financing the Oyebanji Ado city bridge or the Ado-Iyin-Itawure Rd, which would have contributed more positive economic impact on our state?
No wonder Ekiti is becoming the butt of jokes upon the numerous professors. I read we just got another one 😂
