Labour’s City Hall incumbent is fighting for an historic third term

Sadiq Khan is on track to win the mayoral election in a landslide victory on May 2, according to a new poll. The survey of 1,019 Londoners by Survation for ITV revealed that the capital’s current leader holds 44 per cent of the vote, with his Conservative rival, Susan Hall, on 26 per cent.
This puts her eighteen percentage points behind. Both, however, are positioned more closely as regards approval ratings – Ms Hallon +5 per cent, and Mr Khan on +4 per cent.
In the poll, the Liberal Democrat candidate, Rob Blackie, the Green Party pick, Zoë Garbett, are level on 7 per cent, with Reform UK’s Howard Cox on 5 per cent.

It comes after a Savanta poll for the Centre for London released last month gave Mr Khan a 24 point lead over his Tory rival. But the mayor has made it clear of late that he ‘does not believe’ the figures.
The mayor told MyLondon on March 25 that polls narrowed in 2021 when he took on Tory Lord Bailey for the city’s leadership. He added: “There was a sense of complacency – people were lulled into a false sense of security, who were Labour supporters.”
Mr Khan also mentioned that compulsory photo ID at polling stations and the first past the post voting system – instead of first and second preferences – could hamper his bid to be re-elected. Despite positive polling, the mayor reiterated his fears of a Tory victory.

Sadiq Khan On Election Prospects
Asked if he could have given Ms Hall a key to victory by expanding theULEZinto Outer London, Mr Khan said: “I’m quite clear, it’s going to be a close contest. I think there’s a real possibility in Londoners waking up on May 3 with a hard-right Conservative mayor.”
