The Managing Director of Nextier Security Consulting, Dr. Ndu Nwokolo has publicly shared his thoughts and suggestions concerning this terrorism funding that has been a serious issue in Nigeria. He said that our political economy and financial system are being designed in a way that someone who becomes rich overnight isn’t being questioned about how he got that amount of money in a short period.
He also made it clear that despite money laundering and terrorism financially being two different things they still act in the same way. Dr Ndu Nwokolo stated that even though the Nigerian Intelligence Financial Unit (NFIU) is flagging some suspicious activities, there must also be a political will to go out there and fight against these criminal activities.
Quoting some of his statements in an interview he had with Arise News Television today, he said: “Our financial system, as well as our political economy, is designed in such a way that someone who sleeps as a poor man wakes up as a rich man and nobody will ask any questions, all we know is that he has made it”. So it becomes easier to launder money, also note that money laundering and terrorism financially are two different things but they act in the same way meaning that I could be laundering money for someone using a bank and you will see me as a genuine person likewise somebody who is getting money from terrorist groups is going exactly what I am doing. “There are lots of estates in Abuja that nobody knows who owns them. Do you know whether IPOB, ISWAP, and Boko Haram are the ones who own it and are using it to fund their activities?
