The University of Jos has suspended academic activities following a deadly terrorist attack in Plateau State that left several residents dead.
The institution announced the postponement of examinations scheduled for March 30 and 31 after the violent attack in Angwan Rukuba on Sunday night.
Emmanuel Madugu, Deputy Registrar and spokesperson for the university, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday.
In view of the late evening fatal attacks by unknown gunmen on residents of Angwan Rukuba (an area that hosts many staff and students of the university), and the consequential tensions it has generated in and around the area and environs,
the vice-chancellor has directed that all examinations scheduled to hold on Monday, 30th and Tuesday, 31st March, 2026 are postponed and will be rescheduled accordingly,” the statement read.
The university said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of students and staff amid rising tension in the affected area.
It added that management is working closely with relevant security agencies and is monitoring the situation to guarantee the safety of members of the university community.
The attack has heightened concerns over security in Plateau State, particularly in communities hosting academic institutions and other public facilities.
