It was glamorous and exciting as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Engr. Kayode Olubunmi Ojo, along with Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, Funso Ayeni, and 7 other dignitaries, were honored at an International Engineering Conference held at the Ikole campus of the institution.
Engr. Kayode Ojo was recognized for his significant contributions in putting the university on the world map through his dedicated efforts since being appointed Chairman of the Council of the fastest-growing Federal University in Nigeria.The Faculty of Engineering at FUOYE organized its 3rd International Engineering Conference (ICE), a three-day event that commenced on November 5, 2024, at the Faculty of Engineering hall, Ikole Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Engineering Solutions to Energy, Water, and Food Crisis: A Multi-Actor Approach.”This annual International Engineering Conference aims to provide academics, scientists, engineers, business leaders, and students from around the globe with a platform to exchange ideas and experiences in tackling energy, water, and food challenges.
The conference aspires to attract high-caliber submissions of scholarly work as well as presentations from industry professionals addressing the main themes and sub-themes. The occasion was attended by several prominent individuals, including Pro-Chancellor of FUOYE, Engr. Kayode Olubunmi Ojo, and other distinguished council members, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) Prof. Shittu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Designate (SPRIL), and other top principal officers of the university, along with high-ranking engineers in the state who have made significant contributions to the engineering profession.In his remarks, the Chairman of the Council welcomed all guests to the event and expressed his gratitude to the organizers for the invitation.
Engr. Kayode Ojo further stated that he was thrilled to be among fellow professionals and emerging engineers. “You are problem solvers. Continue to conduct research, innovate, and develop engineering solutions to the challenges we are examining today so that both the government and the university community can adopt them,” He assured the Faculty of Engineering that he would strive to elevate FUOYE to an enviable standard. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating that it is the foundation for growth and greater achievements at FUOYE and across the nation.
Engr. Kayode Ojo concluded by promising to support all projects the Faculty wishes to undertake and thanked them for their ongoing commitment to advancing FUOYE. Speaking at the epoch event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina urged the community to adopt a mindset of progress and growth to further propel the university into the limelight.
“Currently, FUOYE is the third most subscribed university in Nigeria, competing with first-, second-, and even third-generation universities in the country. This success is attributed to our stable academic calendar, quality lecturers, and conducive learning environment,” he stated.
Professor Fasina went on to express his admiration for the Faculty of Engineering and encouraged them to maintain their excellent work. He also challenged the faculty to establish an innovative club or hub where intellectuals can collaborate, brainstorm, and develop innovative solutions to the energy, water, and food crises.” I want you to find a lasting solution to the energy problem in this community and the university is ready to support the faculty ” he added.
Earlier in His welcome address, The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Engr. Professor Olaitan Akinsanmi appreciated the chairman, of the FUOYE Governing Council, Engr Kayode Ojo who doubles as the Special Guest of honor of the August event for gracing the occasion of the 3rd International Engineering Conference In his words “The International Conference is designed to bring together different professionals from various fields across the globe to present and discuss the results of their research on relevant happenings for further national growth and development ”
The discussants shall provide solutions to the challenge faced by the country in the energy sector and enumerate means the country can benefit from the available resources to improve the Gross Domestic Product, GDP of the Nation” Professor Akinsanmi addedHe said after this opening ceremony, we shall briefly seek the permission of the Council Chairman and Special Guests to commission our Engineering Drawing Studio named after the Vice Chancellor Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina to show our gratitude for his resilience and commitment to the growth of the Engineering family in FUOYE since he assumed office in 2021.
In an address delivered by the Chairman Organizing Committee, Professor Adesoji Matthew Olaniyan said, it’s my pleasure to welcome you all to the Inaugural Engineering Solutions to Energy, Water and Food Crisis: A Multi Actor Approach, “As a Chairman of the Organizing Committee, I am truly honored to host this gathering of brilliant minds from around the world. ” the challenges we face in addressing the interconnected crisis of energy, water, and Food security are immense adding that these issues are global in scope and demand innovative and collaborative solutions”Prof Olaniyan went on “This conference provides a unique platform for engineers, scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders to come together and share their expertise, insights, and ideas.
According to him, No fewer than 100 papers were presented at this conference and was sponsored by the University Management under the leadership of Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina Meanwhile, The keynote speaker and lead paper presenter by the Executive Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment Tshwane University of Technology, Professor M.G.Kanakana- KatumbaAlso, A don from the University of OSUN, UNIOSUN, Professor Janet Olubukola Olaitan, and former Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Professor Olugbenga Amu were keynote speakers at the conference.
There are thematic sessions where students, researchers, and lecturers from other universities in all over the world made presentationsThe highlight of the event was the foundation laying of a 500-seater Capacity CBT center by the chairman of FUOYE Governing Council Engr Kayode Ojo FUOYENews gathered Eng.
