For the second time in my life, the powers that be in the American Empire have diverted from the norm and selected a mixed-race person as a candidate for the Presidency. Like Obama, Kamala Harris has a highly educated Black father from outside America—Obama’s father attended Harvard, just as Obama did, while Kamala’s mother was an Indian intellectual with impressive credentials and a strong political presence. Both were raised mainly by their mothers after difficult relationships with their Black fathers, leading them to grapple with their own ethnic identities.
What stands out most to me is that neither Obama nor Harris has any ties to slavery in the United States. Could this be why they are more acceptable to the White power structure? Would a Black candidate from the Deep South, who directly connects to the history of American slavery, receive the same level of support? I highly doubt it. By choosing Harris, they seem to be reinforcing the idea that if you’re Black and want to become President, you’d better not have slavery in your DNA. Both Obama and Harris married high-flying lawyers, and both are outgoing and charismatic. The more I see these similarities, the more I’m convinced that the art of political puppeteering is alive and well in the USA.
