
THE ROLES OF MEDIA IN THE PROJECTION OF SECURITY ACTIVITIES. By Rotimi Feyisina
The Media has been described as a veritable tool that can be employed to enhance adequate security of lives and properties in the society.

An Information Officer, Rotimi Feyisina stated this while delivering a lecture on the topic: THE ROLES OF MEDIA IN THE PROJECTION OF SECURITY ACTIVITIES at a 4-Day workshop organised by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ekiti State Command for its officers.
Feyisina noted that there will be an effective security mechanism across the society if the Media and the Security agencies can maintain a symbiotic relationship.

He noted that the Media assist security agencies to interpret information gathered about the environment and contribute in the utilization of such information to forestall security breach.
The Information Officer charged security agencies to curtail hostility towards the Press and rather organise constant interface, capacity building in the area of security reportage and friendly atmosphere for the people of the Pen profession.
He listed some of the challenges bedeviling smooth relationship between the Media and security personnel as intimidation and arrest, the official secret acts, corruption and mutual suspicion among others.
He also called for a strong synergy on the part of the Government, Security agencies and the Media towards developing a common strategy to combart security challenges across the country.
State Commandant of NSCDC, Solomon Iyamu commended the resource person for the expository lecture and promised to implement some of the recommendations made as soon as possible.
