The Usual Ekiti as Created By The Fayemi2.0 Administration. By Gbenga Ogedengbe:
From the repertoire of public knowledge, second term in office as governor is usually a very terrible experience for the Nigeria citizenry.
A governor who had succeeded in fooling the electorate by pretending to be nice in the first term would have the whole four years of his second term to steal all money in the government coffers with full dedication and remarkable impunity.
This observation has become a prism through which the government of every second term governor is viewed for evaluation.
But for Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the current governor of Ekiti State, contrary is the case because his 8 months old government seems to have come with a lot of disappointments to the people.
For instance, what we used to see in Ado-Ekiti during those good days of Fayose were street lights that would come up at 8pm and go off 10pm of the same day and leave the major roads in the state capital in total blackout from 10:00pm to 5:00am of the next day. But now, Fayemi has disappointed us. The street lights would now give intense illumination from dusk to dawn for no just reason.
We no longer have a good governor whose official assignment on Monday morning would be to go to restaurant in Ijan-Ekiti, highjack the chef’s spoon and serve self with soup, cowleg (bokotor) and cowskin (ponmo).
Fayemi has jettisoned Fayose’s good example of stomach infrastructure where adults would have to be on a row under a scorching sun beside major roads in the state capital waiting to be served few cups of rice, beans, cheese buns, Puff puff, cooked rice by the governor himself.
The laudable version of the stomach infrastructure program of Fayose goverment has been redefined by Fayemi.
In Fayemi’s own stomach infrastructure, mature citizens would no longer have the good opportunity to queue under the afternoon sun.
Fayemi has approved the clearing of over 1,554 hectares of land to kick start what Ekiti residents have described as agricultural revolution for massive food production in the state.
Apart from the food security, rural women would be empowered through the attending wealth creation opportunities while it will also guarantee employment opportunities for our teeming unemployed youths in the state.
To make good his determination, Fayemi has perfected a working relationship with the relevant bodies. The partnership involves the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), China, India, and Belarus. Belarus is responsible for about 10% of world production of tractors and some other relevant agric machineries.
In what is now sounding like a complete assurance of success, the Africa Development Bank (AfDB) and world bank have expressed their readiness to assist the state in the agric project and in the construction of a cargo airport.
People are quite disappointed about Fayemi;
Fayemi had refused to get a good replacement for the man at Oke igbono who would be helping him to recruit commercial sex workers every weekend. No wonder the news of prostitutes making away with government money after service delivery in the state government house is no longer in the polity.
Ekiti residents are wondering why Fayemi could not just follow Fayose’s good leadership examples by ensuring that his own children too would be the ones to supply construction materials such as blocks in all government projects.
Fayose in his leadership wisdom killed the state owned gossy water factory and Governor Fayemi could not just allow it to remain moribund as it was but had an effrontery to go there and revamp the factory.
All these disappointments are coming within 8 months of Fayemi government. So people are worried about two things. One, what can happen in the remaining 3(1/3) years of his tenure as governor in Ekiti. And what Nigeria can possibly experience under Fayemi from 2023.
As somebody who is expected to be a domestic adviser to the governor on humanitarian matters, the wife, Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi is not helping matters at all. Erelu Fayemi has added salts upon the existing injuries. She has also disappointed us in many regards as well.
Bisi Fayemi is a philanthropist with a bombardier approach. She owns a sophisticated philanthropic arsenal whose feelers are everywhere. Bisi Fayemi would readily spot the needy and bless them with quality assistance without subjecting them to the punishment of unnecessary bureaucratic rigours.
Apart from her glaring focus on maternal care, girl child education and caution on domestic violence against women, Bisi Fayemi has paid for medical treatments of many to include male category.
Instead of stashing funds somewhere for her private use, she has mercifully set aside good funds for mothers with multiple births.
In Ekiti State, fathers of newly born twins, triplets, quadruplets and so on would not have to abandon their wives and run away like it used to happen in the previous times.
Before its current resuscitation by the first lady (the Mother General), the Multiple Birth Trust Fund (MBTF) had been unscrupulously cancelled by the reckless government of Mr. Fayose. Fayose did not take into consideration the negative implications of his action on both the maternal and the infant mortality rate in Ekiti State.
It is imperative to recall that this same program was initiated by the current first lady, Her Excellency, Erelu Bambam, Mrs Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, in 2010 during her husband’s first tenure. 08032352197
