

A fire broke out at the Bishop Crowther Memorial Seminary School in Awka, Anambra State, resulting in the death of one student and significant property damage.
The Anambra State Fire Service reported receiving a distress call about the fire at 11:30 pm on Saturday. The exact cause of the blaze remains unconfirmed.
According to a statement released by the Fire Service on Sunday, firefighters and a fire truck were dispatched immediately to the scene to extinguish the fire. Fire Service Chief Chukwudi Chiketa conducted an inspection of the site at 10:55 am on Sunday to assess the extent of the damage.
The school’s principal, Ven. Dr. Emendu, explained that the fire ravaged part of a hostel, destroying mattresses and students’ belongings. Tragically, one student perished in the fire, and the body has been taken to a mortuary. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.
Chief Chiketa expressed his condolences to the school community and the bereaved family. He acknowledged the profound sorrow of losing a child in such circumstances and prayed for the family to find the strength to cope with their loss.
