The politicians have successfully weaponized poverty amongst our people ….5000-10000 naira to 100,000 people is all it takes to become a governor in Ekiti. We are in the era of 10-15% voter’s turn out so they don’t even need the services of thugs to disrupt elections anymore…..just 10,000 naira per person on the queue and you can claim a “mandate” for four years in Ekiti and Ondo.
Just use the data from the recently concluded Ondo State gubernatorial elections to judge….2million people registered to vote and only 500,000 showed up (ballot stuffing inclusive), then in a state of over 3 million people only 300,000+ people gave their “mandate” to the governor!
Now place that side by side with Ekiti state where only 300,000+ came out to vote out of 2.4 million registered voters/people in the state .Oyebanji’s current “mandate” was given to him by less than 190,000 sellers ….so the next election might even be less than 100,000 vote sellers if we consider the number of people remaining in that enclave now.
