Yusuf Buhari, son of former Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari, has indicated plans to run for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
The development was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, a former special assistant on digital communications to the late president. Ahmad disclosed that Buhari’s decision followed consultations with political stakeholders.
According to a letter dated April 3 and attributed to Yusuf Buhari, he informed party members and local leaders of his intention to represent the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua federal constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In the letter, he stated that his ambition is driven by a desire to contribute to leadership and support development within the constituency.
The announcement comes amid earlier speculation on social media regarding his political plans. Ahmad later confirmed the reports in a post, reiterating that the decision was made after broad engagement with stakeholders.
Yusuf Buhari has maintained a low public profile since the end of his father’s administration, and this marks his most visible political step to date.
