A former gubernatorial aspirant in Benue state, Okpoku Ogenyi and co-convener Concerned APC Members, CAM, has given the Governor Mala-Buni led caretaker committee of the All Progressives Congress 72 hours ultimatum to start the process of the convention of face the wrath of the party members across the country.
Speaking on a current affairs program, Politics Today, monitored in Lagos on Friday, he also accused the caretaker committee of planning to elongate its initial six months tenure.
Ogenyi chided the caretaker committee of awarding N1.5bn contract for membership registration cards instead of updating the existing register.
“As we speak, a contract has been awarded for a new membership card. In fact, the samples have been submitted and agreed upon. When we are still trying to grapple with the looming recession, our party is embarking on a contract that’s sheer wasting of hard earned resources.
A party that’s already digitalized . We are aware of the plan to dissolve state, Local Govt and ward excos, it won’t stand.
“The caretaker committee should organize convention and hand over power in the next one month. If we didn’t see the notice of convention in the next 72 hours, we will first go to court and then occupy the National headquarters of the party secretariat until they do the needful.
“The Buni led caretaker committee has spent 5 months out of the 6 months mandate without any concrete steps to organize the convention.” He said.
Meanwhile, Akpan Udoedehe, Secretary of the caretaker committee says it’s not interested in perpetuating itself in office. According to him, Buni and other serving governors and senators in the caretaker committee have their hands full already before they were drafted to save the party.
According to Udoedehe, some of the achievements of the Buni led group include the returning of former speaker, Yakubu Dogara back to the APC . The reconciliation in the south south APC.
