The Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the Benin Electricity Distribution Company o provide pre-paid meters to all its consumers in the town. Justice Babs Kuewumi gave the order while delivering judgment in a suit with number FHC/AD/CS/03/2019 on Friday in Ado-Ekiti, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. Dr. Ibukun Ogundipe, President of Ado-Ekiti Residents Consumers Association, and four others had instituted a suit against alleged outrageous billing and non-metering of consumers. Earlier this month, the Kano state government banned the controversial, prominent and fiery Islamic cleric Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara from preaching, leading prayers and teaching religious literature. The embattled cleric known for his anti-Salafi remarks has since been under a house arrest with the government citing security reasons for its action. The Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, who addressed reporters in Kano, said the decision was part of the Executive Council’s resolutions at its weekly meeting. Ahmad Gumi, a Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, has asked the Nigerian government to grant ‘blanket amnesty’ to some criminal gangs terrorising the country’s Northwest region. Addressing journalists in Minna, Niger State, Northcentral Nigeria on Friday, Gumi said it was time the government looked at non-violent approaches to curtailing criminal activities of terror groups in the Northwest and Northcentral regions of the country.
