President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr Orji Ogbonnaya Orji as the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI). Director, Information, in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday said the appointment is “for a single term of five (5) years in accordance with the provision of Section 12 (2) (a) and 6 (3) of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (Establishment) Act, 2007”. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has approved the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for public use in Nigeria. NAFDAC in a statement on Wednesday said it has evaluated the safety and efficacy of the vaccine and approves it for public use. Recall that in January the Federal Government announced that Nigeria would receive 10 million doses of Coronavirus vaccines in March. On November 20, 2020, AstraZeneca/Oxford said its COVID-19 vaccine was 90% effective against the COVID-19 disease. As of February 18, the NCDC reports that Nigeria has recorded 149,369 COVID-19 infections and 1,787 fatalities.

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, refused to grant an application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, to inspect the money seized from the former Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Andrew Yakubu.
