• As EKSG provides N500 million for execution.
A sum of N500 million approved in the 2019 budget of the Ekiti State
Government for the Implementation of the 2018 SDGs-CGS Projects in the
state, has been provided for by the State Government and lodged in a
notable Commercial Bank towards ensuring the success of the Programme.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, who is also the Chairman,
Sustainable Development Goals Implementation Committee in the state,
Hon. Biodun Omoleye, made this known during an Advocacy/Sensitization
Programme for the Implementation of the 2018 SDGs-CGS projects and
programmes in four benefitting Local Government Areas in the state.
Hon. Omoleye stated that the development was in line with the
objectives of the Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led administration, stressing that
the current partnership between the State and the Federal Government
would be of immense value and provide critical infrastructure and
social services in Education, Health, Water and Sanitation sectors in
the benefitting Ekiti South West, Ijero, Moba and Oye Local Government
Areas.
Assuring people in the benefitting Local Government Areas that the
projects would be completed within the next three months and none of
the projects would be abandoned, Omoleye urged traditional rulers and
other critical stakeholders to take full ownership of the projects and
ensure their safety and proper maintenance.
He charged Chairman and Officials of the benefitting Local Government
Areas to create a maintenance Budget for all SDGs projects in their
respective areas, emphasizing the need for Local Government
Authorities to conduct a project audit of all SDGs projects in their
domains, to determine their condition which would be used to prepare a
maintenance cost to be factored into the year 2020/2021 budget
proposal for gradual and immediate maintenance of all SDGs facilities,
infrastructures and ambulances in the state.
In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Information, Tourism and
Values Orientation, Aare Muyiwa Olumilua urged people in benefitting
Communities to cooperate with the contractors handling the SDGs
projects in order to ensure successful implementation of the projects.
Aare Olumilua explained that Government and the SDGs Office encourage
interaction between the contractors and people in the Communities,
particularly the youths, to discourage disruption of projects by
restive youths, adding that people in benefitting Communities must
support the efforts of government to improve their Communities for
their own good.
The Consultant from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the
President on SDGs, Mr. Joe Abiolu, explained that his team was on
ground to monitor the implementation of SDGs projects in the state.
According to him, the Office of the SSA to the President on SDGs was
particular about proper usage and maintenance of all SDGs projects,
adding that his team has the mandate to note if the completed projects
were being properly used or not.
Mr. Abiolu charged Communities not to hesitate to report any short
comings in the implementation of the projects in their respective
areas in order to ensure that long lasting legacies.
In her own remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor
on SDGs, Hon. Mrs. Abimbola Solanke, stressed the commitment of the
Fayemi led-administration to grassroots development.
Mrs. Solanke highlighted projects to be implemented under the 2018
SDGs-CGS Projects in the state to include Health: Construction and
renovation of Primary Health Centres, Provision of Ambulances,
Borehole and Toilets, Education: Renovation and Construction of Blocks
of Classrooms, Provision of Recreational Facilities for Schools,
Boreholes for Schools, Toilets, Desk and Tables as well as Water
sanitation.
