
The Ekiti State Judicial Panel on Human Rghts Violations by Police Officers (SARS) and other persons has said that it will take critical look into all petitions before concluding on it’s recommendations.
The Chairman of the Panel, Justice Corneliius Akintayo, who affirmed that all parties involved will be invited, saying that the Panel will not sacrifice justice at the altar of expediency.
Mrs Ogunleye Ajayi (suing on behalf of Late Sgt. Musiliu Ajayi) who wrote a petition to the panel over the mysterious death of her husband, explained that up till now she did not know the cause of the death of her husband.
Mrs. Ajayi a petty trader and a mother of four, told the panel of the mysterious death of her late husband Sgt. Musiliu Ajayi who served at the disbanded Special Anti-robbery Squard (SARS).
She said under cross examination that her husband who left home on January 2nd 2019 by 6 30am never returned home alive, but she received an emergency call from Police hospital in Ado Ekiti by 8:30am only to get there and found out that the husband was dead.
She explained further that there were strange bruises on the body of her dead husand and the motorcycle he rode on was parked at the the police station.
She however said that no assistance has come from any person, group of persons or any organization to her on the care of her children.
Mrs Ajayi solicited for Government assistance on the care, needs and education of the children which is now very difficult for her because her husband has been the only breadwinner of the family.
The counsel to Mrs Ajayi, Samson Ojo Osobu told the panel that three witnesses will testify to the case.
The panel requested for the investigation report from the Police on the matter and then adjourned the case for continuation on 24th, November 2020.
The case of Ajidara Irewole and Nigerian Army was brought up for mention, the panel said that they will arrange and make money available to serve appearance summon on the Nigerian Army at the Military formation, Akure to ensure that all parties to the case are carried along.
The case of Adewole Temitope And Sunday Oladele of the Nigeria Police was struck out based on the withdrawal application filled by Adewole Temitope(petitioner) and his counsel, that the case was not a violation of human rights but of contractual agreement which does not fall within the purview of the panel.
In the case of Daramola Abiodun and unknown persons whose car was partly damaged and he failed as was requested by the panel to bring the partially damaged car to the premises of panel sitting, all members of the panel rose to inspect the car where it was parked at Owode Quarters, off Nova Road Ado Ekiti to be assured of the claim of the petitioner, thereafter adjourned till 17th November,2020.
The petition of Adebayo Akeem and Nigerian Army, Jayeola Olugbenga and the Nigerian Police of the Ekiti State Commad, Olusanya Alaba and unknown persons, Police Community Relations of Ekiti State and Unknown persons, Inspector Yakubu Aminu and Unknown persons and others petitions were adjorned till later dates.
The panel adjourned it’s next sitting to Tuesday, 17th November, 2020
