Ekiti State House of Assembly has passed the Fifth Alteration of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999( As Amended) Bill, 2022.
The passage of the bill was sequel to its adoption at the House plenary in Ado Ekiti.
Leading the debate, the leader of Government Business, Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan said the process was in tandem with the constitution of the Federal Republic and urged his colleagues to expedite action towards approving the Alteration.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon Funmiliyi Afuye said the Fifth Alteration has passed through rigorous legislative process at the National Assembly with input from various stakeholders before transmission to the state assemblies.
He also said the process was an ongoing one and urged his colleagues to support the Alteration.
After various contributions by members, the bill was unanimously approved by the committee of the whole House.
Also at the plenary, two bills were committed to committees for further legislative action after successfully passing through the second reading.
The bills are Ekiti Knowledge Zone Authority Bill, 2022 and Ekiti State Audit (Second Amendment) Bill,2022.
The Knowledge Zone Authority bill was committed to joint Committee on Trade Investment, and Education for further legislative process while the State Audit (second amendment) Bill was referred to the committee on Public Account for further legislative action.
