Ekiti State Government has distributed another batch of 13,000 3kg gas
cylinders with burners to indigent women across the 16 local
government areas in the state, as part of efforts to enhance the
standard of living of the people and ensuring clean and hygienic
environment.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development,
Alhaja Maryam Ogunlade, who made this known while supervising the
distribution of the Gas cylinders in Ado Ekiti, explained that the
development was a follow-up to the 3,000 cylinders distributed to
indigent women earlier this year.
Alhaja Ogunlade expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the
provision of the gas cylinders, noting that the gesture would
significantly reduce smoke emission from firewood which exposes women
to respiratory diseases and indiscriminate treefelling which led to
deforestation and eventual environmental degradation..
The Commissioner added that the distribution of the cookers would also
boost the economy as some of the beneficiaries would use them for
commercial purposes to enhance their income.
Reiterating the commitment of the Fayemi led administration to the
welfare of the people; Ogunlade assured that the State would continue
to partner with the Federal Government towards making life more
comfortable for them by designing and implementing only policies and
programmes that have direct impact on the citizens.
In her remarks, thePermanent Secretary to the Women Affairs and Social
Development, Dr. Eunice Oladimeji charged beneficiaries to be safety
conscious and ensure proper usage of the cookers to prevent gas
explosion.
Responding, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Toyin Ibitoye commended the
Federal and State Governments for the display of passion to the
plights of women, noting that the gesture would go a long way in
alleviating the sufferings of indigent women at the rural level as
well as improving health status of the people.
