
TO SHUN VIOLENCE, EMBRACE DIALOGUE
Ekiti State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development,
Alhaja Maryam Ogunlade has charged youths to always shun violence and
embrace dialogue to resolve conflicts.
Alhaja Ogunlade gave the charge while receiving the members of the
State Youth Parliament who were on a familiarization visit to her
office in Ado Ekiti.
Stressing that violence could jeopardize their future, Ogunlade noted
that dialogue improves relations and cooperation in the society which
enables further development adding that it also leads to constructive
solutions and lasting results.
She described the concept of Youth Parliament as a good initiative and
a welcome development adding that members of the Parliament must
however realize that the future of the country depends on them and see
themselves as nation builders who must be committed and ready to
sacrifice to achieve the desired goals.
“The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow”, she stated.
Reiterating the commitment of the Fayemi led administration to the
eradication of gender-based violence, the Commissioner said the wife
of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi particularly deserves a lot of
accolades for her efforts at promoting the rights of women and
children.
Ogunlade noted that since the inception of the present administration
as well as during the first tenure of Dr. Kayode Fayemi as Governor,
most girls that had previously dropped out of schools due to untimely
pregnancies and other extraneous issues have been reenrolled back in
schools, adding that they have been counseled not to accept the
setbacks an end to their educational pursuit but strive towards
attaining the peak of their careers.
She said that the focus of Government is to build the confidence of
youths and prepare them for a better future to make them capable of
taking their expected places and positions of responsibilities.
Ogunlade assured the Youth Parliament of the continued support of her
Ministry within the ambit of available resource adding that her door
also remained open and would accommodate any contribution aimed at
improving the lots of women and children in the State.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Youth Parliament, Rt. Honorable Mr. Toba
Fatunla solicited the support of the Ministry for the success of the
proposed International Youth Day slated to hold on the 11th February,
2021.
Describing the theme for this year’s celebration “women and girls in
science” as very apt, Fatunla explained that the International Youth
Day is organized annually to recognize and celebrate the efforts of
youths in enhancing global society and to promote ways to encourage
youths to make positive contributions to their communities.
