In attendance at the epoch making event today, Friday 11th Sept 2020 during the gathering tagged ‘Ekiti Student’s Stakeholders meeting’ with sole purpose of parley between government officials and student/youth representatives to further ensure that Ekiti’s future leaders are up to date with governance and the strides so far taken towards development of our Commonwealth were ….
SPEECH DELIVERED BY SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO GOVERNOR KAYODE FAYEMI ON YOUTH AND STUDENTS’ MATTERS, MOSES ADEMILOYE AT A GATHERING OF EKITI STUDENTS’ LEADERS
I must give kudos to the “Students’ Governor”, Dr Kayode Fayemi and our Mother-General, the First Lady of Ekiti State Erelu Bisi Fayemi for making this a reality.
I must also commend all Student leaders here present, for your understanding and cooperation with this administration.
Earlier this year, during the International Youth Day, our key milestone was that the crop of persons who dominate the cabinet are below 45years, now we’ve seen more young persons emerge as Commissioners in Ekiti State. I cannot find a more worthy example of the depth of belief of this government led by Governor Kayode Fayemi in the ability of young people to run public affairs today.
On October 16, 2020, it would have marked two years since Governor Kayode Fayemi came to office. Let me quickly remind you that when Governor Fayemi came to office there was no standalone ministry dedicated to Youths – instead we had an infusion of Ministry of Information, Youths and Sports. But Gov Fayemi, A highly cerebral administrator opted to have a separate Ministry for Youths and Sports since those two work hand in hand.
Effective from April, 2019, the ministry commenced work under the leadership of the Commissioner, Mr Michael Awopetu while I have helped execute tasks in my position as Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths and Students Matters.
Now beyond what you’ve seen in previous pictures, let me quickly remind you that H.E., Gov. Dr Kayode Fayemi graciously did the following ;
~ Reintstatement of Ekiti Youth parliament.
~ Approved Payment of N227million as WAEC fees for 13,390 candidates in 2019
~Paid N248,522,900 as WAEC fees for 14,242 candidates in 2020
~Approved disbursement of N16.95 million bursary grant to 113 Ekiti indigenes at the Nigerian Law Schools.
~ Renovation and construction of 781 projects across Schools in Ekiti State.
~Facilitated and approved funding for Ekiti Representatives to N-Power Creatives training in Benin, Edo State.
~ Provided Palliatives (Mattresses, rice, cooking pots, food, cash etc) to Students of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti whose apartments were razed by fire in 2019.
~Facilitated the safe transportation of Ekiti Students to their destinations prior to the Covid 19 lockdown.
~ And to top it all, don’t forget that basic education is free here and parents are not taxed like they were previously.
So, Ekiti is favoured to have a God fearing Governor who has a special spot in his heart for Youths and Students.
Thanks covid-19 pandemic has shown more reasons to embrace technology and now, my office is working towards collaborative efforts to two things – fully encouraging Youths to exploit to the fullest, potentials in agriculture and Information technology.
I want to urge us all to be cordial and understanding at this and be rest assured that Mr Governor as well as myself – we will continue to listen to you, engage your ideas and radically improve the lot of Ekiti Youths and Students in the next 2years ahead.
Later this month, we would be celebrating the Governors two years in office and like last year, we would have an audience with the Governor, which would be online in strict adherence to Covid 19 guidelines and please take into consideration that no Governor in this State has done as much as this Governor and let him know that we appreciate his efforts so he can be encouraged to do more.
Thank you for your support now and always – I look forward to better years together.
