
Sequel to adhering to the laid down operational guide as enshrined in the establishing Law of Ekiti State Signage and Adverts 2007 that stipulates service of notice and subsequent sanctions on defaulters, the Director General Mr Sunkami Onipede, the Head enforcement unit Mr Abe and some staff of the agency were today Tuesday 3rd march 2020 on enforcement patrol in Ado ekiti metropolis.
Amongst defaulters sanctioned was a building belonging to a mr Niyi Longe & Co situated at Ilawe road, Ekute junction. The head enforcement unit confirmed that the loss of revenue accrued by the multiple display billboards and other signposts on the storey building was in excess of 1 million naria annually. The enforcement unit implemented the immediate removal of the various display boards with no resistance from the real estate.
The director general, Mr Sunkami Onipede on the spot took time to again enlighten passersby and onlooker of the need for citizen/business responsibilities to state by complying with existing laws of the land. Mr Onipede went further to inform of the agency’s work plan as concerns the business public. He informed that a total clean up of illegal and undocumented adverts and signage structures within the state is in the immediate action plan of the agency and offending structures will be brought down.
Speaking further on harmonizing the multiple advert platforms in the state, mr Onipede informed on the impending collaborative efforts with Electricity Board, Ministry of Land & Physical Planning, ministry of environment and possibly other MDAs that have interwoven facets that concern public display opportunities.
The specific component of the EKSAA 2007 Law that was applied for the purposes of the agency’s removal activity is Schedule 6, Article 4 Ekiti State Law No-10-2007.
It states that “Any person violating any provision of this Law or who violates or fails to comply with the regulations made hereunder or who falsifies plans or statement filed… A fine of 10,000 per week shall apply for any infringement of any of the regulations for a maximum of 4 weeks. Should any irregularity prevail for a period of over 1 month, the Agency can order te removal of the structure.
