In its effort to go extra miles in reducing poverty in the state, the
Ekiti state Government has flagged off orientation of the fourth cycle
of Youth Employment and Social Support Operation-Skills for Job
(YESSO-S4J) programme, with 300 beneficiaries selected from Ikole
Local Government Area.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Director of Employment, Labour
and Productivity, Mr. Lanre Ogunjobi said that every Governor that has
passion for the welfare of the citizen of his state should always
focus on any social programme that can enhance the living standard the
poor and the vulnerable.
“Therefore, the present administration of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi
tagged “JKF2” focuses its attention on the Social Investment
Programmes as one of its 5 cardinal programmes. Meanwhile, YESSO-S4J
being one of the components of Social Investment Programme in the
state, this administration is delighted to flag-off the programme”, he
declared.
Skills for Job Scheme, according to Ogunjobi is aimed at increasing
access of unemployed youths to job opportunities, noting that Ekiti
State is one of the participating states with progressive upscale of
the beneficiaries from the first batch to this current batch.
He said that the collaboration of Ekiti State Government with the
World Bank in YESSO which began during the first tenure of Governor
Fayemi, was borne out of his desire to reduce poverty in the state.
In his address, Ekiti State Coordinator of the National Directorate of
Employment, Mr. Adeoye Oluwasegun assured the beneficiaries of
adequate upkeep during their training period, emphasizing that each of
them will be given monthly stipends of 7,500 throughout the 9 months
of their training as their feeding and transport allowance, while the
State Government will also provide them with Starter Packs immediately
after the training.
The Ekiti State YESSO Coordinator, Mr. Gbola Otewogbola advised the
beneficiaries to be punctual and committed to their training so as to
achieve something worthwhile in the future, with a stern warning to
remove whoever runs afoul of the rules and conducts guiding the
programme.
