Director General, Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Ekiti State, Dr. Hakeem Bakare has said that the ICT hub of the state will continue to develop latest innovations to improve governance in the state, using global best practices.
Bakare said this during a formal meeting held to inaugurate the Treasury Single Account initiative adopted by Ekiti State Government, through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development to be executed by Remita, a leading electronic payment platform in Africa starting from September 1, 2019.
In his words, Bakare said Governor Kayode Fayemi led administration will continue to strive to improve on services rendered to the people of the state.
“As the ICT arm of His Excellency’s administration, we have keyed perfectly into the development agenda of Ekiti. Our role is critical and strategic as we train and retrain our staffs to give the best deliverables to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), for both formal and informal sectors in the state.
The Director General, while endorsing the new system provided by Remita, added that MDAs are one click away from remitting and accessing revenues generated for the state.
“On this platform, payments, collections and other forms of financial transactions are faster and this I believe, will improve the services of all MDAs in the state contrary to old forms of revenue payment and collection. TSA is a welcome development as this will fast track financial process in the state.
“The ICT arm of the state government will continue to support the state by holding constant trainings that will improve the activities of governance,” he said.
Speaking on support roles the bureau play in Ekiti State Government, the ICT expert assured that the Directorate of ICT will continue to ensure that all ICT projects in the state are properly supervised and executed.
“We have been part of the build-up process up to the implementation stage of the TSA. We advised all stakeholders on the best way to proceed with implementations and also have input in all documents and as well evaluate every stage of the process for appropriateness for our environment, bearing in mind the level of technology that we have (internet availability) and the level of enlightenment available to the public.
“We have no doubt that this is the beginning of new things to come as the government look to improve on the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for a collective development of Ekiti,” He said.
Remita has been signed on by the government to manage Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) collections and collection of funds due to its MDAs.
Launched in 2005, Remita is a leading financial technology solution that has been tested and trusted by individuals, businesses of all sizes including conglomerates, and governments at all levels, in and outside Nigeria for the management of their payments, billing, collection and payroll management systems that deliver exceptional Real-Time Transaction Tracking and Reporting across multiple platforms.
