• As it reviews 2019-2021 MTEF Documents.
Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of
its citizenry and development of all the Local Government Areas of the
state.
Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Prof.
Adio Folayan, made this known in Ado-Ekiti, at a One-Day Workshop to
review the 2019–2021 MTEF Documents of Local Government in the state,
organized for the Acting Chairmen, Directors of Administration,
Directors of Finance and Directors of Planning, Research & Statistics
across the sixteen (16) Local Government Areas of the state.
Prof. Folayan, who explained MTEF as Medium Term Expenditure
Frame-Work said the document will lead to the production of 2020
Budget Estimates in the various Councils of Ekiti State.
He disclosed that the Workshop was organized to review Local
Government MTEF documents in line with the Five (5) Point Agenda of
Governor Kayode Fayemi-led administration, which include Social
investment, Knowledge economy, Infrastructure and Industrial
development, Agriculture and Rural development as well as Good
governance.
According to the Commissioner, the success of the work would be
measured by the quality of 2020 Budget made by each Local Government.
Prof. Adio Folayan added that MTEF is to make budget and budgeting
processes transparent, accountable and implementable to address the
needs of the people within the limits of available resources, as the
present administration is committed to reclaim the values and restore
the state’s value to the paths of decency, hard work, honesty and
development which the state was known for.
The Commissioner therefore advised the participants to come-up with
new initiatives like construction of toilet in public places to curb
open defecation in their 2020–2022 Budget and urged them to replicate
the laudable idea at their various Local Governments to bring rapid
industrialization and development to the grassroots.
In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of
Local Government and Community Development, Mr. Sola Ogunmiluyi said
the programme was to prepare the Local Government Budget for 2020.
Mr. Ogunmiluyi said the programme would transform the socio-economic
activities in the various councils.
The Permanent Secretary enjoined all the participants drawn from all
the Local Government Areas of the state to be fully involved in the
programme and make meaningful contributions in order to replicate it
at the grassroot for all the people to enjoy dividends of democracy.
Earlier, the MTEF Document Reviewer, Mr. Kayode Oladipupo, advised the
participants to be determined and be ready to give what it would take
to ensure that the Government achieves its aims and objectives of
overall development.
He particularly charged them to be assiduous at improving the
Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of their councils through creative
and innovative strategies.
Responding, one of the participants, Mrs. Akeju Anike, thanked the
State Government for organizing the Workshop, promising to harmonize
the Government agenda with that of the various local councils and
communities in the state.
Present at the event are the Local Government Chairmen and the Local
Government Inspectors.
