Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, has become the first state-owned institution to implement the newly approved salary structure for members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatola Ayodele, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists ahead of the university’s 30th convocation ceremony.
He said the new pay structure, which followed a recent agreement between the federal government and ASUU, was reflected in the March 2026 salary of lecturers.
The agreement, reached in January 2026, introduced a 40 per cent salary increase and resolved a long-standing dispute dating back to the 2009 pact.
Ayodele praised the leadership of ASUU for its cooperation since he assumed office, noting that improved staff welfare remained central to the institution’s mission.
He attributed the successful implementation to the support of the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and the university’s Governing Council led by Prof. Akin Oyebode.
The vice-chancellor added that the university would extend similar salary adjustments to non-teaching staff once a formal agreement is concluded by the federal government.
Speaking about the convocation, Prof. Ayodele revealed that 10,959 students would graduate, including 82 who earned First Class degrees.
