Neumann was facing six counts, including a felony charge of assault on a federal officer. He wasn’t going to get a slap on the wrist, and he knew it, which is why sold his home and fled, but to a totalitarian dictatorship.
Part of the story is that an unusually high proportion of these defendants are going to trial, especially the felony defendants.
They will discover it’s better to plead to one or two felonies than to be convicted of all counts. The first AFO trial defendant faces 60 years.
