As in every state in the country, today marked the formal flag-off of the APC Membership Registration and Revalidation exercise in Ekiti state. The Ekiti state Governor, HE, Dr. Kayode Fayemi kick-started the registration exercise at his polling unit in his village of Isan. Isan is delineated by INEC as Unit 07, Ward 11 in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti state.
HE, Dr. Fayemi arrived the unit with his wife and First Lady of the state, Erelu Bisi-Adedeye Fayemi to a rousing welcome of drum beats and praise songs by excited village folks. In his entourage was the State Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi and other top Government functionaries.
Members of Ekiti State Membership Registration and Revalidation Committee were present at the unit and participated in the flag-off exercise. Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji (Dr.) Yusuf Shittu Galambi and Secretary, Rt. Hon. Chidi Duru assisted by the Unit Registration Officers ensured the Governor and his wife were successfully registered. Incidentally, the event coincided with Dr. Fayemi’s 56th birthday who together with his wife cut a birthday cake soon after his registration.
Upon being interviewed by the Press, Dr. Kayode Fayemi expressed delight and satisfaction with his Party – APC for undertaking the registration exercise. He said in contrast with the views expressed by Chief Bisi Akande, APC membership registration and revalidation were a needful exercise for the Party. The exercise he said “will allow for the registration of new members; persons who have come of voting age and those who have defected from other political Parties to APC. It will also allow for the sanitization of the existing membership register by expunging names of deceased members and those who have defected to other political Parties from APC”.
Asked whether he was optimistic about the success of the registration exercise, he answered in the affirmative saying “judging from what I have witnessed here in my unit, I am optimistic that similar response shall be replicated across Ekiti state and other states of the Federation. Nigerians have come to realize that APC is the way to go. APC holds the future and fortune of this great country. In fact, what we try to do in Ekiti state is to register our Party – APC in the minds of our people through the execution of multiple developmental projects. As you drove from Ado to Oye Local Government, you would have noticed series of on-going road construction projects. In a similar manner, that is what we are do in the area of education, health, Agriculture and other aspects of infrastructure to register APC in the minds of our people.
Speaking to Journalists after the event, the Committee Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Galambi expressed satisfaction at the conduct and massive response of the people to the exercise. He told Journalist the registration and revalidation exercise shall continue daily and is expected to come to an end on the 24th of February, 2021. He advised both old and intending members of the Party to take advantage of registration exercise to formalise their membership of the Party.
