The Kano State Government, Northwest Nigeria, has ordered the closure of four remotely located tertiary institutions in the state over insecurity in the region.
Dr Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, Commissioner of Higher Education in the state, made this known in a statement on Saturday, noting that the order was with immediate effect.
The affected schools include RMK College of Advanced and Remedial Studies Tudun Wada, School of Environmental Studies Gwarzo, School of Rural Technology and Entrepreneurship Development (SORTED) Rano, and ABCOAD Dambatta.
“With this instruction, all students of the affected schools are advised to vacate the campuses as soon as possible,” she said.
She added that a date for school reopening would be communicated later.
The order came a day after the state closed 10 boarding schools following students’ continued abduction by terrorists from secondary schools in Northern Nigeria.
Sanusi Kiru, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, announced in an audio message sent to journalists on Friday that parents should immediately take their children home.
The affected Kano schools include Government Secondary School Ajingi, Government Girls Secondary School Sumaila, Government Girls Secondary School Jogana, Government Girls Secondary School Gezawa and Government Secondary School Kafin Maiyaki.
Others, according to Kiru, are Maitama Sule Science Secondary School Gaya, Government Girls Unity School Kachako, Government Girls Secondary School Kunchi, Government Unity College Karaye and Government Girls Arabic College Albasu.
