The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has begun moves to repeal the law that made provision for several perks for former Governors and Deputy Governors of the state among other political office holders.
This became public as Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday presented the 2021 Budget to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Former Governors and Deputy Governors of the state are entitled to, among others, pension, cars that are changed every four years and houses in Lagos and Abuja.
However, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a tweet on his Twitter handle on Tuesday that the Governor was moving towards repealing the law known as the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007).
Omotoso tweeted: “To keep governance cost low and to signal selflessness in public service, a draft executive bill coming for the repeal of the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007), which provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former Governors and their Deputies.”
As at press time, Sanwo-Olu was still presenting a N1.155 trillion budget for 2021 to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The budget was tagged: “Budget of rekindled hope.”
