The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) has inaugurated an editorial committee to review and edit the harmonised input fertiliser application manual, in a move aimed at improving fertiliser use across the country.
The ceremony, held in Abuja, had some members of the committee joining virtually.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of NADF, Mohammed Ibrahim, said the exercise marks a key step towards addressing long-standing gaps in fertiliser application practices.
“This effort grew out of a shared concern about the absence of a harmonised, nationally accepted fertiliser application guide,” he said. “What we have before us is the product of collective work, shaped by consultations and technical input from stakeholders across the sector.”
He noted that the manual is expected to bring greater consistency to extension services and improve farmers’ ability to derive better value from fertiliser use. According to him, the work of the committee is central to ensuring the document meets both scientific standards and practical needs on the field.
Ibrahim expressed confidence in the team, adding that the calibre of expertise assembled would deliver a strong outcome within the expected timeframe. He said the final document would signal “a new phase in fertiliser use in Nigeria, driven by science and coordination.”
Responding on behalf of members, the committee chairman, Prof. C. K. Daudu of the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services, said the assignment would be approached with a clear sense of duty. He acknowledged the weight of expectations, noting that the task goes beyond routine review.
We are mindful that this is not a ceremonial role,” he said. “Our aim is to produce a document that is technically sound, scientifically credible and practical enough for national use.”
He added that the committee would work closely with NADF and other stakeholders to ensure the final output reflects broad input and serves farmers effectively.
The manual, when completed, is expected to guide fertiliser application across Nigeria’s diverse agro-ecological zones and support efforts to improve productivity in the sector.
