
The All Progressives Congress House of Representatives primary election in Ekiti State produced a major upset on Saturday as Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju defeated incumbent lawmaker Hon. Davidson Akinlayo to secure the party’s ticket for Ekiti North Federal Constituency II ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The constituency comprises Ido/Osi, Moba and Ilejemeje Local Government Areas in the Ekiti North Senatorial District.
Results announced after the exercise showed that Olarewaju recorded a commanding victory in the keenly contested APC primary, defeating the sitting representative by a wide margin.
The Chairman of the Primary Election Committee and Chief Returning Officer, Asipa Wasiu Adedoyin Banjo, officially declared the results in Ado-Ekiti after the conclusion of the voting process.
According to the figures released by the committee, Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju secured 6,856 votes to emerge victorious in the primary election.
His closest rival and incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Davidson Akinlayo, polled 2,102 votes.
The wide margin between both candidates reflected strong support for Olarewaju across the constituency during the direct primary exercise conducted by the ruling party.
The committee also announced winners from other federal constituencies in the state following Saturday’s primary elections.
For Ekiti Central Federal Constituency I, Hon. Olusola Fatoba emerged as the party’s candidate.
In the Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II primary, Rt. Hon. Oladapo Karounwi secured victory to clinch the APC ticket.
Similarly, Femi Bamisile emerged victorious in the APC primary for Ekiti South Federal Constituency II
For Ekiti South Federal Constituency II, Toyin Okoro was declared winner of the primary election.
Party officials described the exercises across the constituencies as largely peaceful and well coordinated.
Ekiti North Federal Constituency I Declared Inconclusive
Meanwhile, the APC primary for Ekiti North Federal Constituency I, which comprises Oye and Ikole Local Government Areas, was declared inconclusive by the committee.
