The Lagos State Government have declared that only 3 LGAs are without COVID-19 cases in Lagos.
This development was made known by the State’s Commissioner for Health Professor Akin Abayomi today during the daily COVID-19 press briefings.
Lagos State which happens to be the epicentre of the coronavirus in Nigeria with 306 confirmed cases as at the time of this report has 20 Local Governments. 17 Out of the 20 LGAs, already have confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
Professor Abayomi said, “There are three Local Govts where we have not identified any cases of COVID-19 yet and those are Ajeromi/Ifelodun, Epe and Ojo,
Abayomi said, “the majority of cases are in the Lagos Mainland, followed by Eti-Osa, and running closely behind is Ikeja and we are beginning to see a bit of activity in Alimosho.”
Alimosho LGA happens to be a densely populated region in the state with reports pegging the population at more than a million inhabitants. A potential community spread in the LGA, will be disastrous and might lead to a widespread of the virus.
The commissioner also informed of the virus being transmitted within communities, therefore, he said the “latest strategy adopted is active community case searching.”
“We are no longer just waiting for people to present, we’re actually going into the community through all the Local Govts, door-to-door, trying to establish how many people may have the symptoms that are typical of COVID-19,” he said.
