Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have resolved to adopt a consensus arrangement for the emergence of new executive committee members at the ward and local government levels.
The resolution was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s state secretariat in Ibadan, where leaders from the 33 local government areas deliberated on modalities for conducting peaceful and hitch-free congresses.
The APC national leadership had earlier fixed Wednesday, February 18, 2026, for the commencement of ward congresses in about 30 states across the country, including Oyo, and released guidelines for the exercise.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the state chapter said members agreed to return to their respective wards to work out all-inclusive, harmonised executive lists that would be presented for affirmation before the Congress Committee.
According to the party, each of the 351 wards in Oyo is expected to produce a unified list of executive committee members through consensus, a process aimed at strengthening internal cohesion.
The same model will be replicated during the local government congress scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, across the 33 LGAs in the state.
Party leaders noted that the consensus approach was designed to prevent a repeat of internal crises witnessed in 2018 and 2022, which they said affected the party’s performance in the 2019 and 2023 governorship and House of Assembly elections.
To manage possible disagreements, the party also constituted a five-member Peace Committee led by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, tasked with mediating in areas where stakeholders are unable to reach agreement, as the APC positions itself for the 2027 general elections.
