
Pensioners in Ekiti state havebegged the Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji to run for a second term noting that his administration had brough relief, hope and courage to different segments of the populace through various programs and initiatives.
The senior citizens made the appeal during the disbursement of One Billion Naira gratuity to 450 retirees of April to July 2014.
The Retirees who filed out to express their joy at the Lady Jibowu Hall, Government House ground Ado Ekiti described the giant stride and achievements of the administration in the past twenty month as unprecedented, noting that the Governor had continually demonstrated compassionate leadership and good governance in the state.
According to them, the Governor’s resolve to making life better for the citizenry was well felt across different segment of the demography
Pleading passionately, the Chairman Nigerian Union of Pensioners Elder Joel Akinola, the Special Adviser on Pension matters Mr Pius Owolabi as well as the beneficiaries admired Oyebanji’s style of governance saying that such should continue, to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of Ekiti people.
In their different Remarks, the NLC chairman, Mr Kolapo Olatunde, TUC, Sola Adigun and their JNC counterpart also acknowledged the Governor’s effort at defraying the debt and taking the state to the promise land.
They demanded the consequential adjustment for pensioners as well as the implementation of new minimum wage.
The state Head of Service Dr Folakemi Olomojobi who explained that the current administration had paid the total sum of 3. 3 billon Naira in defraying the debt charged workers to embrace the contributory pension scheme to avoid delay in their gratuity.
Responding, Governor Oyebanji who lauded the Pension Transition Department for the transparency employed in the process, ensuring due process, charged the beneficiaries not to engage in any shady investment, but spend on their health and general well being.
He promised to continue in bringing smiles on the faces of the people.
