It is no longer a news that the world economy is experiencing a downturn and unfortunately, no country is left out, even the so-called developed countries are having there fair share in this decline, no thanks to Covid-19 and of course the ongoing Russia-Ukraine civil war which is taking its toll on the world economy.
Nigeria is not exempted from this, infact, ours is so peculiar in that there is over-reliance on crude-oil and it is no longer news that the market for crude-oil have drastically dropped globally albeit NNPC have not remitted any money to the TSA for sometimes now, so the likelihood of a reduction in allocation to federating states is envisaged and state governors and governments have to be proactive in looking inwardly as to how to navigate around this for the betterment of its citizenry.
In this regard, the role of NGOs and Limited Liability Companies are inevitably needed and it is an option to be considered which the government can explore through collaborations and partnerships, and this of course does not in any way downplay the aspect of the states working to boost its IGR
NGOs and Limited Liability Companies are in there numbers and into many endeavours of life, this affords the state to identify what it want and identify specific NGO working in that area. Funding of projects like this may be absolutely dependent on the NGO or through counterpart funding, depending on what the NGO is offering.
The options of Limited Liability Companies can be tapped into such that they are encouraged to embark on a venture that is based on service delivery and there’ll be a sharing formula for the proceeds. Here, people will be willing to gladly pay for the service because they are getting it. Service is rendered, money is made, IGR is increasing and people are happy for it.
So I think adopting these opportunities will not only help increase our IGR for the state, it will further complement the efforts of the government in making life better for the people despite the dearth of resources.
Typical examples of these Non Governmental Organizations and Limited Liability Companies is Promasidor, makers of Cowbell Milk, they presently operating in Ikun Diary Farm, then Ikogosi warm spring is being managed by another Limited Liability Company, BASIA/CO Africa that has broader capacity and far reaching effect to build public schools and other basic educational facilities across African states.
Example here is the partnership deal entered into with the management of the local council development area in Ajoni to build a standardize four classrooms, which supercedes all other classrooms structures built by the state SUBEB. It is interesting and impressive that if Ekiti State government partners with BASIA, several public schools across Ekiti Communities will massively benefit in having modern and suitable classrooms to Accomodate several school age children. These could be tagged OPERATION BUILD NEW SCHOOLS ACROSS THE STATE.
The counterpart funding plan of BASIA is so easy, simple and flexible in meeting up with the required target. It is exciting to know, they built schools with schools to standard, use quality materials and build to specifications, deliver even within specific time frame.

Partnership is the key to ignite development at both the local and subnational government levels.
