Reabsorbed Workers Celebrate Payment Of Salary Arrears

There was joy for 352 workers recently reabsorbed into the Ekiti State Civil Service by the Kayode Fayemi-led administration.

A total of 272 workers whose salaries had been stopped since October last year for being on manual payroll got four month salaries at once.

The workers who received alerts of four months at ago midnight could not hide their joy in their various offices on Thursday.

The elated workers received salaries for July 2018, October 2018, November 2018 and August 2019.

There were long queues at Automated Teller Machine (ATM) points of major banks in Ado Ekiti with the workers trooping to markets to purchase food and other needed household items.

Another 80 workers of the House of Assembly employed during the first Fayemi administration but sacked by Fayose after returning to office in 2014 also got their pay.

The two sets of workers received salary alerts alongside other workers for the month of August.

The 272 core civil servants employed by Fayose but were not integrated into biometric payroll system, were also paid.

Their cases were reviewed by a special panel led by Deputy Governor Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi and their absorption was ratified by the State Executive Council.

The 80 Assembly staff were among the 169 sacked by Fayose shortly after coming back to power.
