“A politician is a person who can make waves and then make you think he’s the only one who can save the ship.”
Indications are rife that some high ranking political office holders in Eket are secretly working to alter the existing political equation in Eket to suit their whims and caprices.
This is coming on the heels of the chairmanship / councillorship elections due this year, all things being equal.
If the existing arrangement among the three geopolitical zones in Eket, is still anything to go by , the chairmanship position will still be retained by Eket Central while Okon Eket zone interchanges the Vice Chairmanship seat with Eket Urban and goes for the position of House Leader in addition with the Council Secretary.
This has been the age long practice among all the contending forces in the polity before now that the bubble is about to be busted.
Can the proponents of this novel idea withstand the heat and force their plan down the throat of the umbrella party”s stakeholders without rocking the boat or is this not akin to changing the rules of the game while the political match is set to commence in earnest ? Indeed, more questions than answers.
Plans have now been perfected, though still in the offing for the apple cart not to be upsetted and the status quo ante maintained. These power brokers are believed to be favourably disposed to the current machinery in the third tier government.
If this plan sails through, the incumbent second in command’s continued occupation of the throne now hangs over the balance, as a former councillor and a serving female councillor have been positioned to go for his jugular.
The reason for this is not far fetched as the powers that be from his zone are not satisfied with his performance in office to merit an encore.
One thing is certain and sure, political feathers are going to be ruffled, tables upturned, as consultations from aspirants are seriously ongoing from several quarters still based on the existing political structure.
Politics, being a very dynamic and interest driven game, let’s wait and see how this new arrangement will eventually pan out within the next few months but definitely, there will be alignment and reallingnment of forces as the local government elections are around the bend.
We live in a world in which politics has replaced philosophy.Politics is more difficult than Physics.
