Please don’t drag Ekiti First Lady’s name in the mud
Our attention has been drawn to a news item circulating in the media by a faceless group, which goes by the name Justice For All Nations (JFAN).
The group describes itself as a Civil Society Organization and claims to condemn an action purportedly carried out by some persons in Ekiti State, alleging that the Ekiti First Lady, Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi is aware of this and has turned her back on the incident.
According to the press release issued by this phoney group, two ladies whose names were given as Miss Ajiboko Bukola and Miss Filani Oyinkansola were recently picked up by the police in a guest house owned by a PDP chieftain and were subjected to abuse and intimidation.
If this is indeed true it is highly regrettable. However, it is advisable for the two persons concerned to immediately file a complaint with either the Police Command or the Federation of Women Lawyers-Ekiti State Chapter. There is zero tolerance for any form of gender-based violence in Ekiti State, and any citizen of Ekiti State knows that Her Excellency Erelu Fayemi will never condone any act that dehumanizes women.
Our findings indicate that HE Erelu Bisi Fayemi has no knowledge whatsoever of these allegations concerning the ladies. The statement of the said group that decided to make this unsubstantiated allegation with political undertones against the First Lady is not only uncharitable, but ill-motivated, knowing that as a gender activist who has spent years to build a reputation of protecting the integrity of women all over the world, she would not turn a blind eye to any form of maltreatment against any woman. It is also very unethical to politicize alleged acts of gender violence in this way.
We observe that the PDP ghost writers have been busy spewing out many lies in their attempt to discredit the government of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi and with the intention to create anarchy in the state. Taking their misadventure to the doorstep of the First Lady should be widely condemned by all and sundry, especially the womenfolk in Ekiti State who can attest to the efforts of Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi in protecting them from any form of abuse.
The government of His Excellency, Dr Kayode Fayemi, with the active advocacy of Her Excellency Erelu Bisi Fayemi, have put a number of measures in place to ensure justice and support for any victim of gender violence. It is expected that the two ladies mentioned would avail themselves of these channels for redress.
