This election has helped identify those tribal, regional, and religious bigots. All of a sudden, the church became a campaign ground. I asked someone, what’s the crime of Lagos? I lived in the East. We couldn’t own land. Verify. Lagos is the first state to appoint non-Yorubas into public and sensitive offices. That is still done to date. Daily media in Lagos lambast the government when it is found wanting, and no one has ever called or marked relatives’ homes for demolition. When we have issues solved, we go online, and they act.
Edo Governor told Edo people not to vote for the same faith ticket, and I asked his commissioner Chris Nehikhare if Obaseki and Shaibu were of a different faith. Edo has never produced a Muslim governor or deputy, yet we are at peace. Let’s stop the nonsense. Listen to all talking, and you’d see they’re not being truthful—a bunch of selfish troublemakers. My friends and colleagues cut across every divide, yet unconsciously they allowed a slip that revealed their selfish side. Please, be a loving person irrespective of tribe and faith. Could you stop telling us where your spouse is from and whatnot? Let’s not pretend that we don’t know our enemies. We do. They’re those selfish political, religious, and tribal leaders. Tell them enough of it by loving yourselves first and then come around to build our country. Many of us here in Lagos can’t dare speak in our home states and not get “punished” by our state of origin governments. The Labour Party man who defeated Obanikoro is an Edo man. His home state would not dare give him a chance. But he is a Lagosian. That’s the spirit. Lagos is an example, and we can only get better.
Go and vote, and do not burn our dear Lagos, please.
