That’s a human skeleton being cut and fed to the vultures!
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Sky Burial Tradition of Tibet.
Sky burial is VERY common in Tibet as it’s a custom they hold to heart. It is believed that vultures eating the corpse and flying away with it will make the spirit go to heaven quickly.
To summarise, the flesh is separated from the bones by the “rogyapas” or body breakers. They must not do it with sad face. They must do it with laughter and smile. This is because Tibetan Buddhists believe that keeping a light-hearted atmosphere can help guide the dead to transcend from darkness to the next life.
After cutting the body. They’re given to the vultures to eat. Some papers I read stated that the flesh will be served to the vultures first. Some claimed the bones will be given first. One thing is sure. Everything will be served to the vultures in the end. In fact, any uneaten remains are burnt while chanting prayers so that the dead body’s spirits will not be tied to this world.
