Edo state police command has confirmed the escape from custody of one Chuks Obuh.
The suspect, who was arrested for burglary and stealing by a vigilante group in Benin city, escaped from the police detention at Esigie police station, Benin city.
A statement issued by the Edo state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bello kontongs, said the Chuks was arrested at Agbor Road in Benin city and was handed over to the men of Esigie police Division, Benin city for discrete investigation and possible prosecution.
According to the police image maker, “Contrary to what was reported on social media that the suspect’s syndicate bought police over to secure the freedom of their member, the suspect actually escaped from lawful custody on 5th September, 21 during a heavy downpour at about 20:30 hours.
The Divisional police officer of Esigie police division is known to be a professional in his dealings and can not compromise the escape of a suspect from lawful custody”.
The statement said the Edo state commissioner of police Philip Ogbadu had directed disciplinary action against all those on duty when the suspect escaped.
The commissioner of police also ordered for the re-arrest of the escapee with immediate effect.
However, the police command advised members of the public to disregard the social media report that the police compromised the escape and assured that Chuks would be arrested again.
