A STATEMENT BY THE USOSA PRESIDENT ON BEHALF OF THE LOC OF 36TH USOSA PLENARY
*It is with great pleasure that USOSA and LOC of the 36th Plenary / AGM Planning Committee invites* all USOSANs to the 2019 AGM of our alumni association scheduled to hold at the FGC Malali in Kaduna from *11-12 October*, 2019.
The theme of the AGM, *”Role of USOSA in Enthroning Good Governance for National Development”* .
The AGM is our alumni coalition’s pre-eminent annual gathering and a multi-modal avenue *for:*
*- exchanging ideas;*
*- advocacy;*
*- networking*, and
*- institutional governance* .
*The 2019 AGM is* structured to include two days of activities, a NEC meeting for all member National Presidents and Secretary Generals, and a business networking session is being woven into the evening event as a way to encourage USOSANs to learn about each other’s businesses and to engage one another on the first day 11th.
The second day, 12th, has two session, plenary 10am and AGM 12pm.
*The policy thrust* to promote national unity and cohesion amongst children from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds in a world-class learning environment, outside their places of origin, which underpinned the founding of unity schools remains one of the most profound efforts to promote national understanding and citizenship in our nation’s history.
*The legion benefits* of that policy are today manifest in the quality of service rendered and roles being played by USOSA alumni in academia, private and public sectors, armed and security services, the professions as well as traditional institutions.
*But, this is not the best of times for Nigeria*, from budget surpluses, huge debt, growing insecurities, increasing poverty, unemployement, corruption and general lack of accountable governance. Our country, is indeed, in dire need of its citizens to right the wrong.
*We are under no illusion that we will find all the answers to the challenges that confront* our nation at the forthcoming or indeed any AGM for that matter, however, as citizens of Nigeria who had the benefit of a Unity College education, we are indebted to Nigeria and have a responsibility to lend our voices to that of other patriots in the on-going conversations to resolve and enthroned the much needed governace that our country is in dire need of at this time.
*Converging from time to time* as we have done through the years affords us the opportunity to remain conscious of this responsibility to our dear country and to remind us all that our generation must rise up to the responsibility of enthroning good governace in our country. Now is the time to give back to a nation that gave us the best education that money could not buy.
*We therefore look forward to receiving you all at the 2019 AGM, in Kaduna, come October 11th – 12th 2019.*
*Signed:* Mohammed Sabo Keana
